ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2004--GE Energy's rental business is providing cooling and power equipment for a temporary, two-story media structure erected adjacent to the Fleet Center in Boston for the Democratic National Convention July 26-29.
GE Energy's rentals business is also supplying the backup power at the Fleet Center to meet various demands, including for the media and convention security. To house the media, Atlanta-based De Boer Vinings, the leading tent and temporary structure company in the United States, erected a 50,000 square-foot Delta structure with an interior clearance of 20 feet. De Boer Vinings added a 50,000 square-foot mezzanine level to create a total of 100,000 square feet. The Delta structure also features glass walls, lighting and carpeting. To cool the structure for nearly 1,800 members of the world's largest media companies, GE Energy is providing more than 1,000 tons of chillers and associated air handlers.
GE Energy is also supplying seven megawatts of power generation and distribution equipment for the tent to support broadcasting, pool feeds and security, as well as backup power for the city's local utility infrastructure. We are extremely proud to again support such an important event, a true symbol of U.S. democracy in action, said Ricardo Artigas, president of energy services for GE Energy. This contract further enhances GE Energy's position as a leading provider of temporary power solutions to a wide variety of industries, from traditional utility firms to the special events industry with contractors like De Boer Vinings.
De Boer Vinings is the exclusive provider of De Boer equipment and services in North America, serving such prestigious events as the U.S. Open, The First Flight Celebration and reenactment at Kitty Hawk, and the Atlanta Symphony Hall Ball. De Boer Group of Alkmaar, the Netherlands, is the world's largest provider of temporary-event structures.
GE Energy has supported both Republican and Democratic events in previous years. The company formed its energy rentals business, based in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1999 to offer rental equipment for temporary distributed power and climate control applications in the commercial, industrial, utility, oil and gas and special events industries. Other 2004 special events that Energy Rentals has been hired to support include the Summer Olympics in Athens, Rock in Rio and the Tour De Georgia bicycle race.
GE Energy has developed a broad family of rental products including natural gas-fired engines, diesel generators ranging from five kilowatts to 1.9 megawatts, a portable power plant with an output of nearly 23 megawatts, air conditioners as large as 50 tons and water-cooled chillers up to 1,000 tons.
