ATLANTA, GEORGIA (August 25, 2003) --- GE Power Systems announced today an enhancement to its D200 substation controller platform system. Through its Automation and Network Services business, GE will now offer a new version of its Internet protocol stack, giving customers more integration capability. With this upgrade, more intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) can be integrated together and combined with GE's advanced substation automation applications.
"This upgrade allows for integration that was previously unavailable, providing end users with a leading solution in the industry," stated Jim Robertson, general manager for the Automation and Network Services business, based in Atlanta, GA.
With this new protocol stack, the D200 can now support up to 400 unsolicited Distributed Network Protocols and/or International Electrotechnical Commission connections over the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, or 120 polled connections using Distributed Network Protocol/User Datagram Protocol/Internet Protocol (based on a one second poll rate).
The D200 is distinct because it has the capability to support a high number of Ethernet connections, as well as legacy communication protocols and substation automation applications all concurrently. It gives operators the capability to deploy larger control systems, creating new integration opportunities and greater overall value.
"Few products in the industry can rival this processing power. We recognize that the market wants more integration," Robertson observed. "Customers want more IEDs communicating over a substation LAN. This enhancement is in response to that trend."
GE's comprehensive transmission and distribution automation assemblage includes expert services to cost-effectively manage and execute substation automation projects, from design engineering to installation and commissioning. The collection of services is complemented by an assortment of products and solutions such as controllers and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), portable test equipment, and transformer management systems which enable utility personnel to further improve asset performance and network reliability.
